What is a Syndrome PDF Print E-mail
Written by Allen Lawrence, M.D.
A syndrome is a complex or composite of occurrences or things.

A syndrome can refer to a symptoms or pattern of symptoms indicative of some disease

A syndrome is also a collection of physical, mental, emotional and/or spiritual signs or symptoms, with or without physical findings on examination, positive or negative laboratory testing, diagnostic testing or radiologic findings that occur together, often in a specific pattern, and hence define a specific disease process.

A syndrome may also be a characteristic combination of opinions, emotions, or behaviors.

Many medical conditions of unknown etiology are commonly referred to as "diseases" because they have specific identifiable patterns of normal and abnormal findings and diagnostic testing.
