Taking Full Responsibility PDF Print E-mail

I had an interesting patient today. A young woman who actually listed that she had 27 different health problems including stress, depression, bi-polar, insomnia, blow back and neck pain and this only mentions just a few of her many problems. This is a young woman only 26 years old. As we talked she ultimately blamed her mother for all of her problems. As it turns out, according to my new patients, they must all be genetic as her mother has each and every one of these problem, therefore she believed that she must have gotten all of these problem from her mother, passed to her in her mother’s genetics.

She came in with her husband who sat blandly by listening to his wife chatter nonstop about how miserable her life was on a daily basis because of all of the problems she had inherited from her mother. The question I had in listening to her was, “when does she take even the slightest bit of responsibility for her own problems.” It seemed to me that she clearly has decided that her problems and medical conditions are none of her own fault and therefore what could she possibly do about them?

How Could I Possibly Heal Myself? PDF Print E-mail

Healing is a process that occurs when we make it work for us. It doesn't happen through luck or because you are otherwise well or free from other illness.

I saw an interesting patients today as I will call her Joanne although it is not her real name. Joanne is 51 years of age and presented with multiple complaints and problems. She had neck and low back pain, muscle spasms, depression, anxiety and of course her biggest problem according to her, “I just worry all the time.”

After talking with her for a while it was clear that her problems go way back into her childhood. She described her back pain as being caused by an injury she sustained when she was 17 she lifted a heavy box and had a sudden pain in her back. She told me that it was perpetuated by her weight for shortly after this injury she gained nearly a 100 pounds. Recently she lost the 100 pounds but the back pain and her other problems persisted, she did not lose her pain, depression or anxiety.

Healing and Freedom PDF Print E-mail

The other day I was asked, "What do you believe is the most important aspect of healing?" By now readers should likely understand that I think, feel and live healing. This is a topic which is hardly mentioned in the real world and only summarily dealt within medicine. When most people do talk about healing, they are usually really talking about treatment. Which is of course a topic for another article down the road.

The bedrock of healing is freedom. This should ultimately be quite obvious for without freedom, lack of constrictions and restrictions, healing is limited and cannot be fully accepted nor acquired. Therefore no matter what else is important or represents a meaningful part of healing must then take a back seat to freedom.

Healing versus Treating PDF Print E-mail

Western medicine is primarily about treating and treatment. It is not about healing nor curing. Too often these terms are not only confused but mixed up. So many people I meet believe that taking a medication, using a supplement or some nutritional product, heals them or solves their health problems. While using their using a specific medication, supplement or product may facilitate healing the healing is really accomplished by their actions.
